Towards the highest sustained application performance
An Open Invitation from NEC and HLRS to the 12th Teraflop Workshop with leading HPC scientists at the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS)
Stuttgart and Duesseldorf, 2 March 2010 – NEC has announced today an open invitation to the 12th Teraflop Workshop, an annual conference that takes place on 15 – 16 March 2010 in Stuttgart, Germany. It is the culmination of an ongoing joint research programme between NEC and HLRS (High Performance Computing Center Suttgart). At the workshop researchers will present their latest results as well as discuss the challenges around future Petaflop systems. This year’s major topic on the workshop’s agenda will be “Cloud Computing for HPC” (High-Performance Computing).
Computing for a better future
At the workshop, experts from diverse research areas such as the environment, medicine and physics will aim to simulate complex processes as precisely as as possible.
NEC’s high-end super computers, the NEC SX and NEC LX enable users to model the world at micro and macro levels in meteorology, aerodynamics, material research and nanotechnology.
OnDemand software services in the HPC market
Dr. Thomas Schoenemeyer, Senior Solution Manager with NEC Deutschland GmbH said, “Cloud Computing has a real chance to be a successful concept in the field of HPC. In fact, experts for technical computing in science and engineering recognize the potential of cloud computing to make computing resources available to other research groups. For example universities in Japan have realized this concept with existing NEC SX-9 vector machines at several institutes.“
Other topics on the agenda at the 12th Teraflop Workshop demonstrate the technological achievements made possible by the cooperation between NEC and HLRS. The event is open to the public and for representatives of the press free of charge. Please contact Mrs. Monika Röder, Schwartz Public Relations at mr@schwartzpr.de.
